Over-molding
Over-molding is becoming increasingly
important, not only to esthetically enhance a product with color, but
also to provide function, such as a softer, non-slip handle grip and
shock absorption on consumer products. Spectrum Plastics Group provides
over-molding in a variety of applications from consumer household and
cosmetic products to dental and medical devices.

Over-molding is the process where one
plastic material is injected and molded over a second plastic material.
The over-molded part will form a strong chemical bond, in some instances
and will be mechanically aided in others to maintain its strength in
the end-use application. Applications include soft touch handles and
grips to improve tactile properties, impact resistant surfaces to increase
durability, or to differentiate the end product and improve aesthetics.
Mylar® Over-molding
Spectrum Plastics Group also offers its high volume loose piece customers a proven alternative to traditional bowl feed assembly operations. The Mylar over-molding process can also be used as an over-mold for two-shot molding, feeding reel-to-reel as both a pre-mold and over-mold.
Our Mylar reel-to-reel molding provides R&D engineers the opportunity to improve their throughput where part orientation is critical to success. Reeled parts are fed into our customers high speed assembly operations dramatically reducing part handling and costs. Our engineering and manufacturing teams have years of experience in this unique application providing high volume, quality parts.
